45 couples tie the knot in Budgam mass wedding

Budgam: As lavish marriages continue to raise many eyebrows, central Budgam district witnessed ‘mass marriage’ and as many as 45 couples tied the knot in an austere manner during a ceremony held here to spread a message against social evils.
The event was organized by Aash, an NGO run by Qurat-ul-Ain Masoodi. The three day event of ‘Aash Mass Shadi’ which commenced with pre-marriage counseling on 8 October and concluded with Nikah Khawani at Khan Sahib on Wednesday.
On the first day of the event the couples were made aware about the importance of marriage in light of Islam through a pre-wedding counseling program in which Dr Kaleemullah Khan (Islamic Scholar), Dr Tajamul (Psychiatrist) and another Psychologist threw light on various important aspects of marriage and discussed the post marriage responsibilities. The event was sponsored by ‘Heaven Resorts Fortune’.
On October 9, the Mehandiraat was held in which henna ceremony for newly-weds took place.
The event was enthralled voluntarily by Irfan, Bilal and Mehmeet (the renowned singers of Kashmir) by singing Wanwun and other Kashmiri songs.
Finally, the event of Nikah Khawani was held in which many people joined.
In this Aash Mass Shadi program most of the newly-wedding girls were orphans and from the downtrodden classes of Budgam. The package kit of seven suits, Burqas, footwear, Golden earrings, Sewing Machines and a Shawl was provided to each bride.
Meanwhile the place for the event was provided by IPTS school Khan Sahib, Gulzar Hospitality were the hospitality partners and 92.7 Big FM was the radio partner of this event.
