Srinagar: National Conference on Monday said that the recent statement of J&K governor Satya Pal Malik regarding the party was laced with political overtones and described it as a “figment of imagination that stands no ground.”
The governor in an interview with a national newspaper had stated that barring PDP and BJP, all parties have contributed to Kashmir ‘mess’.

Addressing the media here at party head quarters here, party general Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said that the governor’s office is supposed to be apolitical and his recent statement has demeaned the stature of the governor’s office. “Our party has always respected the office of the governor and will continue to do so. The recent statements have however demeaned the rather tall stature of governor’s office,” he said.
Reacting to governor’s statement, Sagar said that National Conference has built the institutions in the state and has always watered the progressive, secular and democratic values. “The unflinching role of Sher-e-Kashmir in the socio political emancipation of the people of the state needs no certificate. Our party has to its credit number of institutions in the state and has held aloof the torch of amity and brotherhood,” he said.
Sagar said that the governor is acting partisan by praising those political outfits that has created chaos and political uncertainty in the state. “Whatever good was achieved by the conciliatory process of the Omar Abdullah led government was put in an abyss by the BJP-PDP government during their tenure,” he said.
“The governor’s statement comes forth at a time when the state president of BJP had already flaunted that the incumbent governor was ‘their man’. So this statement by the governor hasn’t come as a surprise for us,” he said adding, “The party appreciates the recent statement of the governor where he had stated that much of the problems in the state are due to the mistakes of the centre but the recent jibes of the governor on National Conference stands no ground and reveal how less informed he is about the state.”
