On SHRC orders, PWD pays Rs 3 lakh to father of minor boy who died after falling in trench in 2014

Srinagar: Complying with orders of State Human Rights Commission, Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) Kashmir has released Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the family of 14-year-old boy, who fell into a 60-ft deep trench and died on spot. The boy was returning home from school when the incident took place in 2014.
According to a statement, a case titled Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Khan of Rawalpora Beeru Budgam was listed before the SHRC regarding the death of the boy inside the trench dug by PWD (R&B) Department for construction of bridge and kept uncovered which resulted into the death of the boy.
The factum of the incident was admitted by the R&B Department as well as by the Police and the the Commission on 03 July last year had passed an order, asking erring Department to pay Rs.3.00 lakhs compensation in favour of the petitioner as his son died due to negligence of R&B Department.
“Today the case was listed before the Chairperson of the Commission. After going through the material/record on the file, It has been found that Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) Kashmir on the intervention of the Commission has passed an order No.186/CE/ (R&B) K/PLG of 2018 dated: 18-09-2018 wherein an amount of Rs.3.00 lakhs has been released as compensation in favour of the petitioner,’ the statement added.
