Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday extended time period till December 15 for submitting of report by district-Level Official Committees constituted for screening of the SPOs engaged in the last six years in the state.
The government in July this year had ordered forming the district-Level Official Committees, each headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioner with concerned district SSP and Dy Superintendent of Police (CID-SB) as members.
“These Committees shall assess and screen the SPOs engaged during the past six years, with regard to their selection, antecedents and performance,” the order had said adding that the Committees shall submit their report to the Home Department and the Director General Police within one month. Later the time period was extended till September 15 and now it has been extended till December 15.
Figures reveal that there are 31,474 SPOs in the Jammu and Kashmir. For the last two years 10,758 SPOs have been engaged in J&K. of whom 8992 SPOs were engaged in Kashmir zone, 1,457 were appointed in Jammu zone.
The highest number of 1,392 SPOs was engaged in Kupwara followed by 1,377 in Baramulla district and 1,275 in Srinagar district. Nearly 2,556 SPOS were engaged in the four south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama in the last two years. The order extending time comes days after police ordered that no SPO shall be posted as personal security officer of any protected person.
