Srinagar: After almost 250 years, restoration work on the heritage minarets of historic Jamia Masjid has been undertaken by Anjuman-e- Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar.
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and Patron Anjuman-e- Auqaf Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq chaired a meeting of the members of Anjuman-e-Auqaf to take the stock of ongoing repair and restoration work at Jamia masjid under the supervision of experts, a statement issued here said.
Mirwaiz also took on the spot inspection of administrative works and overall cleanliness drive in and around Jama Masjid.
“Restoration Work is in progress on the heritage minarets of Jamia Masjid after almost 250 years. Despite limited resources with the Anjuman this work has been untaken by them with the help of experts to preserve the minarets tand restore them to their original beauty,” the statement said.
While repairing these minarets extreme care is being taken to maintain their originality, the statement said.
Jama Masjid is the religio-cultural and spiritual centre of Kashmir and Tourists also visit the grand mosque located in the heart of old city.
