Kulgam: The residents of Redwani area of Kulgam district in southern Kashmir on Monday held a protest demonstration against the construction of a new Army camp in the village.
Scores of residents assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar and raised slogans against the Army and government for allowing the construction of the army camp.
The residents said that the Redwani area is already surrounded by two army camps within a radius of 3 kilometers.
The said that they already feel insecure duo to the presence of two massive camps in the area and the addition of one more camp will add to their insecurities.
The residents claimed that for the last five days, the Redwani belt is observing shutdown against the Army move and all the educational institutions have remained shut thereby impacting their studies.
They alleged that the army went berserk in the area and damaged the electric transformers. “The army damaged more than 60 houses and around 20 vehicles during night raids,” they alleged.
Demanding immediate removal of the camp, the residents said that they will be forced to hit the streets if the government fails to relocate the camp.
