Militants attack police station, kill cop, snatch his rifle in Shopian

Shopian : A policeman was killed in an attack on police station by militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir early on Sunday morning.
Reports reaching INS said that militants fired grenade and fired indiscriminate on police station in which a policeman was injured who was removed to hospital. The policeman identified as Saqib Ahmad Mir from Karewamanloo area of Zawoora village of Shopian succumbed to injuries later. The militants also snatched service rifle of the cop and fled from the spot.
A police officer confirming the details said that area has been cordoned off and man haunt has been launched to trace the attackers.

A police spokesman said that the attack took place at wee hours when militants fired indiscriminately on the Police Station. “The attack was repulsed by the alert jawans,” the spokesman said. The police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the matter, the spokesman added.
