Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said that the second militant killed in Sopore gunfight with government forces was a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander who was identified as Abu Maaz.

On Tuesday, the police identified one of the two slain militants as Abdul Majeed Mir alias Sameer of Tujjar Sharief area of Sopore district.

A police spokesperson said that the slain militants were active in the area and were involved in various cases of “civilian killings” and attacks on security establishments.

“They were also found involved in Case FIR No 02/2018 of PS Bomai which pertains to the killing of Arif Maqbool Sofi R/O Wahipora Handwara, FIR No 37/2018 PS Bomai which pertains to the killing of Mohammad Ashraf Mir R/O Harwan and FIR No 72/2018 of PS Bomai which pertains to the recent killing of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir S/O Ghulam Rasool Mir R/O Harwan Sopore,” claimed the spokesman.
