Gunfight rages in Tujjar Sopore, internet suspended, schools shut

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between government forces and militants at Nowpora village of Tujjar   Sopore, police sources said.

They said that forces cordoned off the village following specific information about the presence of some  militants in the area.

The forces, as such, intensified the cordon-and-search operation following which the militants  hiding inside a house opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

When reports last came in, the gunfight was going on in the area.

Meanwhile, authorities suspended internet services in parts of Sopore as a precautionary measure.

The administration has ordered closure of all educational institutions in Sopore for the day.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore said that the decision to close down the educational institutions for the day was taken after a gunfight erupted in Nowpora village of Tujjar   Sopore.

He said that all schools including Sopore Degree college will remain closed
