Anantnag: Police on Saturday claimed to have killed a militant while “repulsing” an attack on a police station Achabal in Anantnag district of south Kashmir. A policeman was also injured in the brief shootout late last night, police said.
“Attack on Police picket at #Achabal was repulsed. In retaliatory action one (militate) killed. Weapon recovered,” police said on official twitter handle. “One injured jawan is shifted to hospital. He is stable,” the police added.
Later, police identified the slain militant as Bilal Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Tatripora Yaripora in neighboring District Kulgam. Bilal had joined the LeT three months back.
A police officer said he was involved in a weapon snatching case and also carrying out attacks on the government forces in the area.
Meanwhile, police said two cars, which were apparently used by the militants, were also seized by Police. “Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation in the instant matter is in progress,” the police officer said.
Meanwhile, railway authorities have decided to suspend train services from Banihal to Srinagar as precautionary measure.
