Anantnag: An unidentified militant was killed and 15-year-old teen was injured during a gunfight at Gadole hamlet in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
Officials said that a joint team of police’s SOG and army laid a siege at Gadole Vailoo during midnight following inputs about the presence of some militants.
A police officer said that an encounter ensued after joint team of forces retaliated to the firing by militants hiding in the area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that a foreign militant has been killed but there was no official confirmation about it so far even as firing has stopped for now.
Amid the gunfight, a teenager, Yawar Ahmad Chopan suffered bullet injury on his head and was removed to district hospital Anantnag. A doctor at the hospital said that the conditional of the 15-year-old was “stable”.
Meanwhile, hundreds of youth took to streets in Vailoo and tried to march towards the encounter site, reports said. The protesting youth pelted stones at forces and later fired teargas canisters and pellets to disperse them. When this report was filed, ding-dong battles between two sides were going on.
Meanwhile, in wake of the encounter, the authorities as part of the usual practice have stopped internet services in the district.
