Srinagar: One person was killed and two others injured in a blast at Tosamaidan area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday.
A police officer said an explosion occurred at Tosamaidian area Sunday afternoon, injuring three persons who were shifted to nearby Primary Health Centre. One of them, Waseem Ahmad Najar was shifted to SKIMS where he succumbed to injuries, the officer added.
The Tosamaidan was used as firing range in state which expired in 2014. The Army had been using the meadow for artillery firing range for over five decades since 1964 and the government’ decision against extending the lease followed stiff public resentment.
Nearly 50 residents living around the Tosa Maidan meadow are said to have lost their lives while hundreds of others were rendered crippled for life allegedly to stray or unexploded shells left by the army.
