Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a militant and an Over Ground Worker from Pulwama and Baramulla district respectively.

“Yesterday during evening hours, a joint party of security forces apprehended a (militant) identified as Abdul Majid Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Iqbal Colony Pattan Baramulla. (He) was travelling in a car bearing registration number DL9CM0213 and was on way to meet other (militant) active in the area, “ a police spokesperson said . On his personal search, police claimed that “arms and ammunition and other incriminating material was recovered.”

“During questioning, he revealed that he is in touch with the other (militants) of the area who are planning future (militant) strikes,” he said, adding, a case (FIR No 133/2018 under section 7/25 Arms Act) has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and “further investigation is going on.”

Meanwhile, he said that acting on specific information about the movement of militants, Baramulla police yesterday arrested OGW Irfan Ahmad Ganaie son of Muhammad Ramzan Ganaie resident of Hajam Mohalla Rathsuna Tral.

“Some explosives were recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson claimed.

“During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that he was in touch with other (militants) and was planning to carry out attacks in the area.”

A case FIR number 39/2018 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sheeri and further investigation into the matter was going on, the spokesperson added.
