Tral : The residents of Panner Jageer village in Tral staged a protest demonstration against the department of public health engineering (PHE) for failing to provide pure drinking water supply.
The protesters took to streets and raised slogans against PHE for delaying “long pending” demands.
They were demanding bore-well and the restoration of the potable water supply to the area.
“We have no pure drinking water in the area and we are being forced to drink dirty water from nearby forest,” a local, Hussain Khan told INS.
The locals alleged that scores of persons, most of them elderly and children, are suffering from different diseases including “hepatitis”.
They demanded restoration of water supply and a bore-well in the area to mitigate the problems of people.
When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering, Department Tral, Nisar Ahmad Kar, told INS that area has a filtration gallery which is helping in purification of water.
He said that at the time of rains, water may contain some sandy and soil particles but overall there is no “big issue” in the area.
He however added that department was carrying survey and bore-well will be given to the area soon under some scheme to redress public demands besides testing water in the water reservoir.
