New Delhi: National Conference on Friday filed an intervention plea in the Supreme Court of India seeking to be included as respondents in the petition challenging Article 35-A of the Constitution of India.
The party had deputed its Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani for the purpose who filed the intervention plea on behalf of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference through Advocate Adeeba Mujahid and was assisted locally by Advocate Nazir Ahmed Malik after being duly authorized by party in this regard by a resolution on the 1st of August.
“We filed the intervention plea in the Supreme Court in reiteration of our commitment to fight against all machinations aimed at fiddling with the State’s special status and unique political identity. National Conference will fight this battle from the forefront and will do everything necessary to safeguard the State’s special status and political rights”, the NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said after the intervention plea was filed in New Delhi.
Camping in New Delhi for the purpose, the NC Provincial President said that the party had retained a comprehensive and competent legal representation and would represent facts and legalities in the matter in a comprehensive and substantial matter in view of apprehensions of a half-hearted attempt by the Government to defend Article 35-A.
“We will make our case in the Supreme Court in light of the constitutional facts through which the State negotiated its accession with the Union of India – after having acceded to the Union in extraordinary circumstances. In line with directions from the Party Leadership, we are keeping a close eye on developments regarding this matter and as respondents will represent the aspirations and sentiments of the people of the State as effectively and resolutely as possible”, the NC Provincial President added.
The NC Provincial President said the party would also continue to raise awareness about Article 35-A not just within the State but in forums across the country to fight the elaborate propaganda that has been unleashed to distort the State’s special status and special constitutional provisions that were incorporated in the Constitution of India with respect to the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
