Advocate General reviews status, progress of pending cases

SRINAGAR, JULY 25: Advocate General, D C Raina today reviewed the progress of disposal of cases involving the State pending before the High Court and subordinate courts in the State.

Secretary to Government, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Majid Bhat, Special Secretary to Government, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Achal Sethi and other officers of the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, besides the Government Counsels were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Law Officers were asked to furnish complete details about the pendency of cases, reasons for delay and also suggest measures for further improvement to ensure speedy disposal of cases. The Law Officers also suggested their view points as well as difficulties faced by them in rendering assistance to the State Law Officers.

It was further decided to discuss all these issues with the Heads of concerned Departments in coordination with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Advocate General advised to evolve a quick mechanism to avoid undue and unwarranted delay in filing the replies and contesting the state cases before the Courts.
