Budgam: An event was organized by Aash, an NGO, with an aim to assist orphan girls here at Shungul Pall village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.
Two orphan would-be brides were given clothing and cash assistance. Various other orphans were also financially assisted during the event.
Qurat-ul-Ain, head of Aash, said: “these people approached us umpteen times, so we started to work for their welfare.”
She said that “someone” has to come forward to help these needy people who are living in these far flung areas and “Aash is trying its best to reach them.”
“We are poor people and when nobody come forward to help us, NGO’s like Aash becomes our hope,” says Tariq Ahmad, a local who participated in the event.
One of the brides said, “it doesn’t matter how much amount they contributed but their assistance is praise worthy.”
