Magisterial inquiry ordered in killing of Trehgam youth

Kupwara: Government on Thursday said that it has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a youth in Trehgam area of Kupwara on Wednesday evening.

“We have ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident”, DDC Kupwara Khalid Jahangir told INS.

A senior police officer in the district confided that they have lodged an FIR in the incident as well.

Khalid Gafar Malik, was killed by Army fire, after they retaliated to stone pelting by protesters in the area. Shutdown was being observed in the area against civilian killings in south Kashmir.

Khalid was a shopkeeper by profession and had completed his B ED degree recently.

Two of his brother are in Jammu and Kashmir Police while one is a serving army man. Thousands of mourners attended funeral prayers of slain

Srinagar based army spokesman Rajesh Kalia said that  they are looking into the matter, ‘As in what Circumstances Army fired upon the youth”.

Curfew like restrictions have been imposed in the district and all the ways leading to Kupwara town and Trehgam were completely sealed.

Soon after Khalid was laid to rest clashes erupted in the area.
