Sopore Maternity hospital loses specialist surgeon to transfer order, authorities say, ‘will get one if needed’

Sopore :- Protests have erupted in Sopore after a senior gynecologist Dr Rakshanda was transferred to Baramulla hospital, which has irked patients.

“Dr Rakshinda were posted in the Sub District Hospital Sopore and has been transferred to Hospital Baramulla on Tuesday,” an official said.

According to patients Sub District Hospital is ‘central place of North Kashmir’ and ‘Mother and child Hospital Sopore is the solitary hospital that caters to maternity cases for three districts Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora’.

“The transfer of gynecologist in the hospital will affect many people,” Kulsuma, a patients at the hospital told INS.

Patients claim that a specialists transfer from the hospital is not the first time such an ‘order’ has been issued but ‘there is a patern’.

“Government deliberately transfers good doctors from here creating lot of problems  among residents as well as patients,” a group of attendents at the hospital claimed.

There have been chatter of political interference in transfers earlier but we don’t know what has triggered this transfer,” claimed an employee at the hospital.

Director of health Kashmir Saleem ul Rehaman told INS that there were requirements of gynecologist surgeon doctor at District Hospital Baramulla so the doctor was transferred.

“There are 5 Gynecologists in SDH Sopore and one among them  was  transferred to  District Hospital Baramulla. If we feel that we need one more Doctor at SDH sopore, we will do the required arrangements,” he said.
