Govt bars ‘unnecessarily’ calling of DCs by senior officers

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday ordered that senior officers, Heads of Department not to “unnecessarily” call the Deputy Commissioners for meetings at Srinagar and Jammu.

“It has come to the notice of the authorities that some senior officers /Heads of Department are unnecessarily calling the Deputy Commissioners for meetings at Srinagar /Jammu. This kind of practice disrupts the functioning of offices, as the availability of the Deputy Commissioners is imperative at district headquarters. However, there may be emergencies, where such a meeting is necessary,” reads an order issued here GAD.

Accordingly, the GAD said it is impressed upon all the Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners to ensure that Deputy Commissioners are not unnecessarily called for meetings and following – – instructions be adhere to the objective can be achieved by maximizing use of Video Conferencing. “Divisional Commissioners are urged to visit districts more frequently, at least once in a month, so that they have a good idea of developments and happenings in the district.”

No Deputy Commissioner shall be called for a meeting to the Civil Secretariat without prior permission of Chief Secretary, it added.
