Tral gunfight: Police version

Srinagar: A gunfight between militants and government forces which started on Tuesday afternoon has ended on the killing of three militants, Police said.

Pursuing credible leads regarding the presence of militants in Tral area of District Pulwama, Army, CRPF and Police had jointly launched searches in the Hyena area of Tral.

“As the searches were going on, militants fired on the joint search patrol of forces, which was subsequently retaliated by the forces leading to an encounter,” police said.

“In the encounter, all the three militants were killed. The three militants killed in the encounter have been identified as Adil, Danish and Qasim. The third militant identified as Qasim is believed to be a Pakistani,” police said.

The slain militants were affiliated with JeM and it is learnt that they were the top commanders of JeM who were involved in a series of attacks on the civilians and government establishments in recent times, police added.

Police said that weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the site of encounter.

Besides five forces personnel also sustained injuries in the encounter and have been hospitalised and all are stable, police said.
