Srinagar: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Monday expressed hope that Government of India would take a holistic view considering all aspects while deciding on extending ceasefire post Ramazan in the coming days.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of inauguration of Mehjoor Bridge here, She said it was satisfying to note that people have experienced a general relief ever since the security operations were suspended in the State.
Mehbooba also appealed all stakeholders in the State to come forward and join the dialogue offer made by the Government of India recently.
The Chief Minister asked all the stakeholders in the State to play their role in ending the cycle of violence, ensuring a durable and dignified peace in the State and for addressing all the issues confronting the State. She said the peaceful engagement offers it all and hoped all sections in the State would join it to get Jammu & Kashmir out of the difficulties it has been caught up for the last three decades or so.
The Chief Minister noted that the dialogue offer by the Indian Home Minister came in the backdrop of GoI’s decision to suspend security operations in the State which has created a conducive atmosphere for peace and dialogue in the State. She appealed the people to guard this positivity generated on the ground and not let anything to happen which has the potential to disturb this positivity.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Rs. 20 crore Mehjoor Bridge over Flood Channel which would give a huge relief in traffic congestion of Srinagar city. The bridge would provide an alternative connectivity to Srinagar to Railway Station and Airport via Bye Pass.
Geelani pays tributes to Tufail Matoo, says murderers must be punished
Srinagar: Paying rich tributes to Shaheed Tufail Matto and martyrs of 2010, the Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani has reiterated the pledge to take the mission of martyrs to its logical end. “The sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs will not be allowed to go waste and their mission will be accomplished at all costs,” said Geelani.
“We will not forget the warm blood of our young martyrs and we will strive hard to achieve the goal for which they have sacrificed their lives,” said Geelani and added that armed forces killed 125 innocents like Zahid Farooq, Wamiq Farooq and Tufail Matoo in cold blood murder. While expressing displeasure over the state authority’s failure in bringing culprits to book, Geelani said: “The cops involved in brutal killing of Tufail Matoo in downtown Srinagar during 2010 peaceful agitation are still roaming scout free.” He further said: “It was a cold-blooded murder and those culprits who killed innocent Tufail Matoo must be punished.”
He said there was neither check nor are those involved in innocent killings tried for their heinous crimes. They said instead awarded and rewarded, Geelani said. “They feel free to kill whosoever comes in their way, he added.
Blaming local stooges for these merciless killings, Geelani said that as there was no system to curtain the inhuman and heartless activities of occupied forces and “these killers enjoy impunity under the garb of draconian laws, thus there seems no letup in prevailing bloodshed in state.”
