Dir Tourism Kashmir gives Rs 5 lakh to family of a tourist who died at Narbal

CHENNAI, JUNE 10: According to official handout here On the directions of Tourism Minister Tassaduq Mufti, Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah on Saturday met the family of a 22-year-old tourist R Thirumany in Chennai who had died in an unfortunate incident at Narbal, about 15 km from the capital Srinagar, on May 8.

Director tourism also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased tourist. No amount can compensate the loss of the life, whole J&K state shares the grief with the family, he said on the occasion.

Director Tourism met the family at the Press Club Chapak along with Chairman TAAI Chapter Chennai Shohul, MC members Pazhani Murgesan and Devika besides other known travel agents like Balan, Haran and Fatima. The representatives of Fine Yatra travel agency which had sent the group to Kashmir and their Kashmiri travel agents Zubi Travels which was handling the group in Srinagar were also present.

After the tragic incident on May 08, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Tourism Minister on the behalf of entire state apologized for the incident and the human loss. Chief Minister had also handed over a cash amount of Rs 2 lakh to the bereaved family. 

Director Tourism Kashmir said the incident was an isolated one and the rest of the travelers which were the part of the group completed their holidays safely.

He said every Kashmiri regretted the incident including the travel trade from Kashmir who gave a press conference to condemn the incident.

While assuring that Kashmir continues to be safe place for travels, Director Tourism Kashmir urged the travel agents in Chennai to keep promoting Kashmir.

Director tourism Kashmir said South India especially Chennai is emerging as good market and J&K receives good flow of tourists from these places. He said under GoI scheme “Ek Bharat Shesh Bharat”, both the states are promoting the tourism of each state.

Director Tourism thanked Government of Tamil Nadu and its Tourism Ministry and travel trade fraternity for supporting the J&K Tourism.
