Police fire pellet gun inside Jamia Masjid, took over gates as injured bleed inside, it’s mayhem: eyewitnesses

Srinagar: Situation at Kashmir’s central mosque Jamia Masjid is tense after police fired pellet guns inside mosque, took over its gates and did not let injured be given medical attention. Eye witnesses say at least thirty are injured and among them 10 have at least recieved pellet in head, including eyes.

Soon after friday prayers were over pro freedom protests broke out in the area and police quickly stood at the gates of Jamia masjid and fired Pellet gun on people inside the mosque including those who were still busy in prayers.

“They fired from gates and several were injured, at least thirty and ten have pellet in eyes,” eye witnesses told INS.

According to eye witnesses after firing pellet guns police took over the gates and did not let injured be taken for medical check up, while they were bleeding profusely inside the masjid.

“Ambulances had to be brought to the gates of Jamia and injured were bundled in them to be taken to hospital as police did not let injured come out of the mosque premises,” eye witnesses said.

“Its mayhem,” eyewitnesses said.

Mirwiaz Umar Farooq condemned the police action on twitter:  “Heavy deployment of Govt forces around #JamaMasjid even in this holy month leading to tension& agitation.Dozens of civilians injured after forces resorted to pellet &teargas shelling!large number of people unable to come out of the mosque.Condemn the deployment and forces action,” he tweeted.
