Shopian: Massive clashes ensued firefight between government forces and militants at Jamnagri area of south Kashmir’s Shopian District in South Kashmir.
Sources said hundreds of youth took to streets and pelted stones at forces with later resorting to tear smoke shelling to disperse the former.
Earlier, reports said, militants and government forces exchanged fire brief after joint team of army and police in the village. The militants, reports said, were spotted in an orchard in the area and on seeing the forces, opened fire, triggering off a gunfight which lasted for brief interval. The gunfight was followed by a lull during which the joint team of forces carried searches but militants had purportedly managed to escape.
