Srinagar: Government on Friday put Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence.

Reports said that Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest, hours ahead of his scheduled address at the historic Jamia Masjid in Downtown Srinagar.

Reports said that a police party reached his Nigeen residence and put him under detention.

An official said that the leaders has been put under house arrest to prevent him from leading protests after the prayers.

The joint resistance leadership has called for protests after congregational prayers today against the killings in Kashmir.
