KU Assistant professor goes missing, case registered

Srinagar: A contractual Assistant Professor of Kashmir University has gone missing since yesterday evening and the family has registered a case of missing with the police.

The contractual AP in Sociology department, Mohammad Rafi from Ganderbal had called his mother on Friday evening saying that he will be coming back home however he failed to show up at his residence.

“He talked to mother saying that he will be coming home from KU. It was 3:15 when he rang us up,” Imtiyaz Bhat, brother of the missing told INS.

According to Imtiyaz, Rafi has mobile phone issues so when they later in the evening dialed him back it was ‘switched off’, so did not take the thing seriously that moment.

“However till late evening he did not reach home, perturbed we  called his wife also,” Imtiyaz said.

It was 12:15 am when his family last rang him up but the phone was off. The family rushed to Police and told Family that since he is a KU official so they must take up the matter with them.

Family of the missing Rafi then approached KU authorities who wrote to police about the case and later a missing report was registered by Police.

Kashmir University PRO Faheem Aslam told INS that they have taken up the matter with the authorities.

Imtiyaz took to facebook asking people to help them trace his brother.

Kashmir university issued a press statement  that reads: “The family members of one of the contractual lecturers in the Department of Sociology namely Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat S/o Abdul Rahim Bhat R/o Chunduna Ganderbal have this morning reported to the university’s chief proctor that he is missing since yesterday.

According to the KU spokesman The vice-chancellor has written to the Director General of Police, requesting him that all efforts be made to trace the whereabouts of the said contractual lecturer. The offices of the Hon’ble Chancellor as well as the Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor have also been apprised about the matter.

“The vice chancellor personally met the protesting students and assured them that all efforts would be made to trace the missing lecturer. The university is in touch with the local police. Students are requested to maintain calm and cooperate,” KU spokesman said.
