Srinagar: Responding to Joint Resistance Leaderships call for strike a complete shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday to mourn the killings of two militants and a civilian in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a pro-freedom conglomerate of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has asked people to observe shutdown against killings which happened on Monday.
Hizbul mujahideen commander Sameer Tiger and his associate Aquib were killed during a six-hour-long gunfight in the district’s Drubgam village.
Clashes erupted with the forces to disrupt their operation and help the militants escape. Shahid Ahmad, 14, was killed in clashes and at least 20 other civilians were also injured.
All shops, business establishments, public transport remained closed in Srinagar city and all other district headquarters of the valley. Restrictions have been put in place at various places to thwart any protest demonstration.
Curfew like situation remains in old city.
Train services between north Kashmir’s Baramulla town and Bannihal town in the Jammu region have been cancelled.
Mobile internet services have been suspended across south Kashmir.
KU has postponed exams scheduled today as well.
