BUDGAM: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof. Nazeer Ahmad said that an advisory cell would be established for the farmers to deal with any drought-like situation anywhere in Kashmir.

VC SKUAST made these remarks while chairing 5th scientific advisory committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra held at New Conference Hall in Budgam on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mohammad Harun Malik also attended the meeting.

VC said that decision regarding establishment of advisory cell to be headed by the Director Agriculture department has been taken as valley was expecting drought-like situation which may hit the overall crop production during upcoming season and as there is need for coordinated approach to deal with it so that the farmers don’t get confused with plethora of discrepant advisories.

In this regard, VC directed the KVK and other line departments to prepare database of farmers in every village through which different advisories would be provided to them.

VC also directed concerned to aware farmers about the suitable area wise crop farming as must so that they will go for right farming at suitable places.

He also directed instead of 2 to 3 days, KVK should conduct training programmes of farmers for 10-15 days. He stressed on KVK to work in collaboration with other departments including horticulture and agriculture for progressive farming.

VC directed concerned to conduct the demonstration of vermi compost in 100 villages of Budgam and conduct skill development courses and certificate courses on scientific pruning for farmers.

During the meeting, VC also stressed on campaigning on  use of proper fertilizers and pesticides by farmers.

DC Budgam, Muhammad Harun Malik stressed upon the technological intervention in cereals, fruit crops, vegetables and livestock, besides skill development training to be imparted to the farmers for progressive farming and better production.

On the occasion, VC also released KVK publications about the awareness of poultry, sheep and mushroom farming.

Two scientists of KVK Budgam were also awarded on the occasion for their remarkable scientific work in the field.

Senior scientist and head of KVK Budgam Dr Nisar Ahmad Dar through a power point presentation presented the holistic review of the progress report and action taken plan 2017-18 and proposed action plan 2018-19 on the occasion.
