Awantipora: Clashes eupted in Islamic University of Science and Technology between students and government forces after students pelted stones on an army party repairing wires near the campus who resorted to firing aerial shots on Thursday.

According to sources An army camp nearby had dispatched a party to repair wires near IUST campus.

Students on the varsity pelted stones on the party who fired aerial shots creating panic and chaos in the campus.

IUST PRO Mohammad Amin told INS that they heard the gunshots and chaos gripped the varsity.

“We don’t know who fired but its outside the varsity campus. There is chaos and panic in campus,” Amin said.

Police and CRPF personnel quickly reached the campus and tear gassed students inside the varsity.

Clashes were going on in the area.
