Caught on CCTV: Truck driver involved in hit and run case arrested

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested driver of the truck caught on CCTV after a hit and run case leading to death of a person on Chanapora bye-pass  near Haryana marbles in outskirts of Srinagar.

“Few days back Srinagar police circulated news item in print  and social media regarding the identification of truck involved in hit and run case on Chanapora bye-pass  near Haryana marbles in which one person had lost his life,” a police spokesman said.

He said photographs of the truck involved in the case were obtained from the CCTV footage and accordingly circulated for identification and help was sought from the general public.

“The circulation of news item along with photographs of truck proved very useful and finally led to the identification of the truck with registration no. JK13D 5118 and was accordingly seized and driver was arrested,” he said.

A case (FIR 49/2018) under section 279, 337, 304-A RPC was registered in Police Station Sadder and investigation was under going on, the spokesman said, adding circulation of  news item in the media played vital role in identification  of the truck and subsequent arrest of the accused driver.

“Srinagar police has thanked the general public and media for their  co-operation in nabbing the accused.”
