Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Saturday termed as dictatorial the continued house arrest of its chairman Syed Ali Geelani and other leaders by ruling PDP-BJP government.
In a statement issued here, the amalgam here hit out at the “ruling regime” and its forces for “their inhuman and vengeful attitude towards the leadership, saying the state virtually reels under martial law like situations. “No law exists and fundamental rights have been trampled and leadership continues to be caged,” it said.
Decrying authorities for their authoritarian approach, Hurriyat Conference on Saturday strongly termed as “dictatorial” the decision of authorities to keep Geelani under continuous house detention.
“It is a deliberate attempt to keep the leader away from masses,” Hurriyat said in a statement and added that Haji Gh Nabi Sumji, Aga Syed Hassan Alsafvi, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Bilal Sidiqi and Mohammad Ashraf Laya are continuously under house detention.
Hurriyat expressed its serious concern over continuous detention and deteriorating condition of its leaders including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Dr Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Peer Saif Ullah, Ayaz Akbar , Meraj-u-Din Kalwal , Naeem Ahmad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Mohammad Aslam Wani, Masarat Aalam Bhat, Mohammad Yusuf Mir, Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, Mir Hafeez Ullah, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Ameer Hamza Shah, Rafiq Ahmad Gania, Shakil Ahmad Yatoo and life convicts including Dr Shafi Shariati, Dr Qassim Faktoo, Maqsood Ahmad, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad, Nazir Ahmad and others. “They are being subjected to vengeance,” it said.
Hurriyat Conference accused the authorities of persecuting them in every way possible and denying them the basic facilities like medical care and that these detainees are being provided with sub-standard food.
Demanding immediate release of all detainees, Hurriyat Conference said that fake cases have been filed against these to prolong their detention and despite court orders the authorities are detaining them on one pretext or the other.
Hurriyat conference said that Kashmiris know that that the ruling regime treats them as an enemy for demanding their political right and illegally and arbitrarily detains them in jails and detention centers but as per human and legal norms it is mandatory upon the government to provide these political prisoners basic human facilities and not mistreat abuse and punish them in prisons.
Hurriyat Conference blamed PDP-led coalition regime for unleashing reign of terror and that despite their rhetoric for freedom of expression, they have turned the state into a big jail and strangulating the genuine voices and people and resistance leaders are denied the political space.
Hurriyat while hailing the commitment and steadfastness of “nation” asked to pursue sacred mission with full devotion and asked ICRC, Asia Watch, Amnesty International and other Human Rights Organizations to come to the ‘rescue’ of these detainees and impress India to treat detainees as per charter laid by the international community.
