Ganderbal: Police Wednesday ordered suspension of a constable in the death Gowhar Ahmad from Kangan who succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS yesterday.

Constable Gulzar Ahmad of police station Kangan has been suspended from services for his ‘prima fascia involvement, pending inquiry’ in the case.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday had ordered a departmental enquiry besides a “regular criminal investigation” into the killing of Kangan youth Gowhar Ahmad Rather.

“Consequent upon his prima facia involvement in case FIR No. 18/2018 u/s 307 RPC Selection Grade Constable Gulzar Ahmad (belt no. 422/Gbl) is herby placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending enquiry,” order reads.

“In a law and order incident at Kangan, on April 2, 2018, one person namely Gowhar Ahmed Rather s/o Ab Rehman Rather was injured who was subsequently admitted at SKIMS Soura. Today, he succumbed to his injury,” had said a police spokesman, in a statement.

He said a departmental enquiry has been ordered and entrusted to DIG CKR, besides regular criminal investigation, to ascertain the sequence of events and actions related to the incident.

The 22-year-old youth, was buried at around 2:30pm mid-night after district administration conceded to demands of the locals, in local ‘martyrs graveyard’.
