Handwara: Police on wednesday said that  a woman was hanged to death by her husband  in Nowgam area of Handwara.

Police said that on 14th of Nov 2017 Abdul Hamid Khan father of the deceased Nahida received a call from the in-laws of his daughter that she died on way to hospital after she suddenly fell ill.

Police also said that body of the deceased was buried in a hurry with the interference of elders of the area,“But mother of the Nahida found her sudden death as fishy,” a police official said.Police initiated proceedings under section 174 CRPC and the dead body of the deceased was exhumed and a post-mortem was conducted by a team of central forensic science laboratory (CFSL) Chandigarh.

The medical opinion revealed that Nahida has died due to hanging and it proved that her husband Sajad Ahmad Khan son of Miskeen Khan had hanged her, a police official said.

He also added that inquest proceedings were converted into formal FIR No 72/017 under section 302 of RPC.

The accused is presently lodged in sub-jail Kupwara and police has produced a challan in the case.
