Two days after fierce gunfight Govt forces launch massive operation in north Kashmir forests

Kupwara: Two day after a fierce gunfight between militants and government forces which left ten dead including five forces personnel a massive anti militancy operation has been launched on Saturday in the forests areas of Helmatpora,  Awoora ,Chairawari and Gulgam forests  in district kupwara of North Kashmir.

A top official confirmed to INS that the operation has been launched as there are inputs of presence of militants in the area.

Government forces were engaged in a fierce gunfight with militants for two day in Helmatpora which culminated after killing of five militants and five government forces.

Police sources say that they believe some militants might have escaped from the encounter site and might be trying to escape from the jungles.

“The operation launched is to block all the ways out and get them in the forests. There is high possibility of contact with militants being made as the operation progresses,” police official wishing anonymity said.

 

Sources also confided that the operation is being conducted by a joint team of, 41 RR , 5 Bihar, 4 Para Commandos  and  SOG  kupwara.
