Insha Mushtaq joins DPS Srinagar, Dir CPJ thanks school authorities

Srinagar: Insha Mushtaq, who became face of the 2016 pellet mayhem on Monday joined Delhi Public School Srinagar to continue her education. The admission of Insha was facilitated by Center for Peace and Justice.

Director CPJ Nadir Ali thanked princiapl DPS Vijay Dhar who, according to the organization had ‘personally helped regarding Insha’s admission’.

“CPJ also facilitated grant of child protection sponsorship from J&K State Child Protection Society, of Rs 2000 per month in Insha’s favor. CPJ will also bear expenses accruing on her boarding and lodging in Srinagar,” Ali said.

Insha had cleared her  cleared her class 10 board examinations earlier.

Insha Mushtaq was hit by pellets after she opened window to see outside. She became face of the pellet mayhem that was called ‘worlds largest mass blinding’ by international media. Pellet gun remains in use in Jammu and Kashmir.

Insha lost her vision after she was hit by pellets on July 11, 2016, three days after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

According Insha, she was hit by pellets when she opened a window to look outside her home in Sedow village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

“I was at home when I was hit by hundreds of pellets, mostly on my face,” Insha was quoted in an Amnesty International report titled “Losing Sight in Kashmir”, on the impact of pellet-firing guns.

“They (pellets) even went inside my mouth. I want the forces who fired the pellets to be punished, but I know the state does not care. I have no faith in their system,” she was quoted of having said.

Center for Peace and Justice is an institute working to assist and help rehabilitate victims of violence in J&K especially in the valley, work for peace and ensure justice to those who are being deprived.

The director CPJ Nadir Ali had held various youth outreach programmes during last few months at Shangus, Mattan, Khannabal and Shopian in South Kashmir; Ganderbal and Budgam in Central Kashmir and Baramulla in North Kashmir.

Ali interacted with youth and victims of violence and deliberated upon youth grievances. He is instrumental in the educational rehabilitation of pellet victim Insha Mushtaq of Shopian and facilitated her admission in Delhi Public School Srinagar, in SEN department.
