Srinagar: Residents of Machil on Monday held a protest demonstration outside district deputy commissioner Kupwara’s office against the alleged misbehavior of the DDC with them over the continuous closure of link road connecting the Valley, close to LoC, with main Kupwara town.
Scores of residents assembled outside the DDC’s office complex and staged protests. They said that Kupwara-Machil road was shut since last more than ten days and people were going through tough phase.
They said despite improvement in the weather, the road is continuously closed as a result of which they face lot of inconvenience and students also suffer. “Many a times we asked concerned minister and Deputy Commissioner about the problems facing the people but they are turning deaf ears to our sufferings,” residents alleged.
“A delegation comprising elders met Deputy commissioner Kupwara today but instead of listening to our genuine demands and finding means to address them, he shouted ‘Daffa Hojao’ (get lost) from my room,” one of the protesters said, “forcing us to protest against the behavior of the DDC.”
They said that if Machil-Kupwara road was not thrown open for traffic at an earliest, they will hit the roads in Srinagar to protest against the negligence of district administration.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Khalid jahangir told INS that he never misbehaved with anyone. “I meet many delegations every day and never misbehave with anyone,” he said.
Regarding road closure, he said it has been closed due to continuous avalanche warning to save human lives. “We have to close the road due to avalanche warning. Same applies for Kupwara-Tangdhar road as the same is closed due to avalanche warning,” he added.
