Srinagar: Kashmir valley observed shutdown on Wednesday against shifting of prisoners from Kashmir to outside jails and the recent killings of six persons by government forces in Shopian.
Authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar and Shopian to prevent a pro-freedom leadership called protest march to south Kashmir town.
All the education institutions are closed while examination scheduled have been postponed.
Train services remains suspended and internet services in south Kashmir areas also continued to remain suspended for the third consecutive day.
Markets, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Srinagar city and other district headquarters of the valley.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a pro-freedom conglomerate of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for shutdown and March.
Malik has been arrested and lodged in the Srinagar Central Jail, while Geelani and Umer Farooq have been placed under house arrest.
Police said the restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in the old city area and some uptown areas of Srinagar to “maintain law and order”.
Official sources said that restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC have also been imposed in Shopian town and its adjoining areas.
