Disabled persons protest, demand education, employment

Srinagar: Scores of disabled persons from different parts of Kashmir Valley assembled here on Monday and staged a protest, seeking “education and employment.”
They also sought implementation of Disability Act 2016 and introducing reservation quota for them.
Under the banner of J&K Handicapped Association, they marched from Pratap Park to Divisional Commissioner Office to register their protest and raised anti-government slogans.
“The Disability Act 2016 which was passed in the parliament is not implemented on ground. Nothing was kept for us in the budget either,” President of the Association, Abdul Rashid Bhat, said.
He said that government was providing them Rs 1000 per month which was not enough to make the both ends meet. “The state government should introduce reservation quota for them so youth having disabilities can get education and can live a normal life without depending on others,” he said, adding, ““The government have kept our demands to meetings only, we appeal the government to take some serious steps towards our welfare.”
The protesters threatened to intensify their protests if their demands were not met.
