Pulwama: Residents of Chersoo, Awantipora are up in arms against Irrigation department for failing to restore water canal which provides water to around 50 villages for agricultural purposes.

The canal, according to locals, caters to agricultural fields of around 50 villages of Bijbehara and Awantipora  in the South Kashmir.

Ali Mohammad, told INS, that they have repeatedly informed authorities about the bad shape the canal is in but their requests have fallen to deaf ears.

“The canal is filled with waste, dust and mud. Repeatedly we apprised authorities to clean it up and restore it but they don’t care,” they said.

“We don’t know why they are turning blind eye to redress this issue as carrying capacity of the canal is reducing,” residents said.

“The canal remains dry in winters making it a better time to clean and restore it,” residents said.
