Pulwama: The residents of Aripal tehsil in Tral sub division of this south Kashmir district on Friday staged protest against authorities for failing to provide power receiving station in the area despite assuring the same five years ago.
Scores of people gathered at main chowk of Aripal and raised slogans against PDD, blocked Tral-Aripal road and demanded the station in the area, as according to them, 30 villages are suffering badly due to absence of a power receiving station.
“More than five years have passed now but no receiving station is being installed due to which power cuts happen all the time as the area gets electricity from another station which already carries heavy load,” Wasim Ahmad Lone told INS. “30 villages of the tehsil particularly students are suffering.”
The residents further said that dilapidated poles and dangling wires are also posing threat to the people which also need to be redressed. They said despite repeated requests; authorities are turning off their eyes.
“We are being threatened in the form of dilapidated poles and dangling wires in the area, but nobody is listening to our pleas as whole electricity system is faulty,” another protester, Tahseen Ahmad told INS.
Earlier, when INS carried a story on the same issue, the MLA Tral Mushtaq Ahmad Shah said that time that “DPR is already made for the receiving stations and we assure that under ‘Deen Dayal’ scheme, two receiving stations will be given to Aripal and Lalpora areas of Tral Sub division for the betterment of power supply”.
