Srinagar: A 24-year-old youth was injured after government forces fired pellets at group of people who took to encounter site near Palhallan Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said the youth Ghulam Hassan has been shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. There was no official confirmation.
Meanwhile, fierce gun battle started between militants and the joint team of army and police continued at Palhallan Pattan. Reportedly two militants are trapped, one of them is said to be from Tangmarg who has been active from last ten years.
As reported, sources told the INS that acting on specific information about the presence of some militants at Palhallan, army’s 29 RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off the whole area. As the joint team intensified the searches and fired few warning shots near the suspected spot, the militants hiding in the area tried to break the cordoned. However, they said, the militants could not succeed in the attempt and engaged in a gun battle which was going on in the area.
When reports last came in, the exchange of fire was going on.
Meanwhile, internet services in the area have been suspended by the authorities as has been routine in recent times that whenever such incidents occur, the internet becomes the first casualty. Authorities have also ordered suspension of train service from Srinagar to Baramulla even as it would ply as per schedule in south Kashmir.
