Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday strongly condemned the imposition of curfew and restriction in downtown Srinagar and also in Sopore area of Baramulla in view on the fifth hanging anniversary of Afzal Guru who was secretly hanged and buried inside Tihar jail on 9 February 2013.
A spokesman of the amalgam lashed out on ruling regime for barring people from offering Friday congregational prayers at central Jama Masjid Srinagar for the consecutive third week and forth time this year besides caging Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continuously at his Nigeen residence and preventing him to carry out his social, political and religious obligations.
The spokesman said with massive deployment of government forces the whole Kashmir has been turned in to a jail where everyone was feeling insecure. He said that using “suppressive” tactics like imposition of curfew like restrictions, arrests, putting leadership under arrest aimed to muzzle the genuine dissent in Kashmir has become a routine affair of those at the helm, adding, such oppressive tactics have never succeeded in breaking the resolve of freedom loving people.
