Kupwara: Keran-Tangdhar area of this frontier district is without an ambulance since 2016. Locals said that the only ambulance allotted to the sub district hospital (SDH) Keran eighteen years back is lying defunct since last year.
“We transport the patients on our shoulders in times of emergency. We have a shortage of transport facility in winters,” the locals said.
When contacted, BMO Kralpora Mohammad Shafi who is also in-charge of Keran sector told INS, “Director Health Services Kashmir had already sanctioned an ambulance for primary health centre (PHC) Keran sector but the ambulance was latest modified model and large in size and couldn’t make through narrow Kupwara-Keran road.”
“The road that plies from Kralpora to Keran is bumpy and breadth of the road isn’t favorable for ambulance. We opted to use the same at Kralpora hospital with due permissions of concerned MLA and Director Health,” BMO said, adding, “A well-modified ambulance will be available within days to fulfill the genuine demand of people of Keran sector”.
