Srinagar: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remained under house on Wednesday, a spokesman of the amalgam said.
“It is an irony that Mirwaiz was released just for a day after his 11 days of house confinement,” the spokesman said and condemned “dictatorial and autocratic decision” of the ruling PDP-BJP regime to keep him under house arrest.
The spokesman termed the frequent house detention of Mirwaiz as a complete political vendetta and an attempt to keep him away from his “followers and the masses besides preventing him from carrying out his social, political and religious obligations.”
He said that caging Mirwaiz at his Nigeen residence by the rulers who claim to be champions of the democracy has become a routine affair now.
“Launching a crackdown against the resistance leadership every now and then and placing them either under house arrest or lodging them in jails belies the tall claims of those claiming democracy being in its full swing in Kashmir.”
The spokesman said the fact remains that the ruling regime can’t “compete with the pro-freedom leadership on the political turf and instead resorts to repressive measures against the leaders and activists following Kashmir cause.”
The spokesman strongly denouncing the continuous house confinement of Syed Ali Geelani at his Hyderpora residence and the arrest of JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, terming the move as completely dictatorial and authoritarian. “These repressive measures were tested in the past and time has proved that no genuine struggle could be crushed through military might and suppression.”
