Srinagar: Those desiring to travel on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday have been asked to check status of the thoroughfare with respective traffic control rooms.
“People are advised to check status of the highway,” Inspector General of Traffic Police Jagjit Kumar told INS.
The 300-kilometre long highway, the only surface link of the Kashmir to outside world, was reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for nine hours due to a massive landslide in Ramban district.
According to the police, there was a heavy landslide which blocked the highway on Monday morning at Ramsoo stranding over 400 vehicles. Men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared debris on the thoroughfare.
Traffic on the highway was restored after nine hours. The debris due to the landslide has been removed from the highway,” police officer said. He said that priority was accorded to stranded vehicles and were allowed towards Srinagar.
