Pulwama: The residents of Gulzarpora village in Awantipora of this south Kashmir district have accused the successive state governments of failing to provide them the basic amenities.
According to locals, Gulzarpora village is just 8 kilometers away from tehsil headquarter Awantipora and still is without road, water, proper electricity and other facilities. The inhabitants of Gulzarpora mocked at the tall claims of the government on providing the basic facilities to the people.
“We are suffering immensely due to the lack of water in bore-wells, electricity and proper road in the area,” the locals said, adding that power cuts have grown severe since past few months.
The entire village has over 300 families and unscheduled power cuts have grown severe for the last few months irking the people, especially students.
“We suffer tremendous hardships during winter due to interrupted power supply,” group of students said.
They said despite several requests to concerned officials, the situation have not improved so far. The outages have become a major concern for the people.
The locals also alleged that patients suffer a lot as primary health centre in village lacks essential facilities.
“The patients particularly the expected mothers of the area have to go to Awantipora to get routine medical checkups as our own primary health center lacks basic facilities,” one of the female resident rued, adding the authorities don’t even bother to provide at least a gynaecologist.
The residents have complained that concerned authorities have never visited the area to look into the matter as the people of village are continuously suffering from different problems for long time.
The villagers have urged the concerned authorities to intervene and address their grievances at earliest.
When contacted MLA Pulwama Mohammad Khalil Bhand, he said, “There is nothing like that in the area as I have already constructed good roads there apart from link roads leading towards the interiors of the village”, adding, the power issue is general and will be resolved in the area along with other genuine problems.
Khalil Bhand mentioned many bore-wells were made available in the area to mitigate water issues and requested people to contact him before making allegations.
“I request people to call me prior for any issue they face and I will try my best to resolve their issues at the earliest,” Bhand added.
