Handwara: Authorities on Friday advised public not to consume water from Nallah Mawer, Langate in north Kashmir’s Handwara belt as some miscreants have poured insecticides into the water.
They also requested people not to consume water from lift pumps at Sherhama/Pohrupet/Panditpura.
Panic gripped among people in Mawer, Langate of north Kashmir’s Handwara belt after miscreants poured insecticides into a Nallah, Lawoosa Kul, which soon spread over kilometers in the area.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan told INS that soil and water samples have been taken to conduct the test.
He advised people to avoid using water till it is ensured to be safe. “Police and technical expert team are on their job,” he said.
Voicing concern, SHO Mawer Qalamabad, Abdul Ahad Jan said, “People are strictly advised not to use tap water till the matter is properly investigated.”
The official said the use of insecticides has poisoned fishes.
Police is investigating the motive behind the poisoning by miscreants, he added.
