Injured Shopian youth succumbs at SKIMS, clashes erupt in Pulwama

Pulwama: A youth who was critically injured in army firing on January 27 in which two other boys were killed, succumbed to his injuries at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar on Wednesday early morning.
Reports said that 19-year-old Rayees Ahmad Ganie of Narpora area of Shopian in south Kashmir succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours of Wednesday. For five days, he was battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at SKIMS.
The body of Rayees reached to his native village where emotional scenes are being witnessed. Women are seen beating their chests while men are chanting slogans to mourn the youth’s death.
Two youth Suhail Ahmad and Javid Ahmad were killed and several others injured in forces’ firing in Ganawpora area of Shopian on January 27.
Shopian remains shut for the 7th consecutive day against the civilian killings.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between protesters and government forces in Pulwama against youth’s death.
Sources said youth pelted stones on forces who responded with tear smoke shells.
