Tral observes shutdown on Hizb commander’s anniversary

Pulwama: A complete shutdown is being observed on Saturday in Tral sub-division of this district on the anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Abid Ahmad Khan alias Hamza who was killed in a gunfight with government forces in 2015.
Three years back on January 27 Hizbul Commander Hamza son of Jalal-ud-Din Khan was killed along with his associate Sheraz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar of Aourigund village in Tral. Both the militants were killed in a brief encounter at Hundoora village after the government forces cordoned off the house in an afternoon hours.
The encounter continued for only 30 minutes, in which security personnel including Commanding officer Colonial M.N. Rai of Army’s 42 RR and police head Constable Sanjeev Singh, Police station Tral were also killed during the gun battle.
All the shops and business establishments are being observed shut while public transport was off the roads.
Meanwhile, youth pelted stones when some shopkeepers tried to open their shops and also damaged many vehicles.
